Mobile Application Design - Branding
HYPE
HYPE Your Night - A nightlife app that connects users with local entertainment, live music and events in your city or current location
This app concept was created by a young professional who traveled for work upwards of half of the year. He was always looking for things to do after work in the areas where he didn’t know anyone. Thus, HYPE was born.
My role is this project was that of UX Researcher and UX/UI Designer along with additional graphic design and branding work in the design of the logo and marketing materials. Below are screenshots of the application and as well as the logo and branding guide.

The UX Process for HYPE
Outline of Key Features
Starting with an entire app would have been an enormous undertaking, so I suggested we begin with features that would be key for an MVP as well as a single city where we could test the market.
Test and Test Again
Once wireframes were complete, we tested these our layouts locally through moderated interviews with potential users in our target market.
Research the Market
After outlining the concept and key features, we tested the market to gain insight into interest in an application like this, both from a user perspective and an event management and promotion perspective via a survey and user interviews.
Functional Specification Document
After successful refinement and testing of wireframes, I wrote a document outlining the frontend functionality and interactions of the application along with key backend requirements noting where data handled in a certain way.
Wireframing
After testing the market and potential features, I wireframed these user journeys and key features to be coded into an MVP (minimum viable product).
UI Design
Lastly, I designed hi-fi comps in Adobe Photoshop of the front end user interface of the application. Some of the comps are shown in the screenshots above.
