Flight deals, get your flight deals!

People are always asking me how I find my cheap flights. Well here you go, people. Here are my secrets listed as well as some good deals I found this week for people around the U.S.

kayak.com/explore (http://www.kayak.com/explore) – my favorite tool. This shows you where you can go anywhere in the world at the lowest price point. I tend to search my home airport first (IND) and then nearby airports (Chicago, Cincinnati, Columbus, etc.) for cheap deals. When I’m searching internationally, I search from major US airports I know I can get a cheap flight to from my home airport (Chicago, Atlanta, Charolette, New York, Denver, etc.).

Fare Calendars for flexible travel – If I’m going somewhere specific but have flexible travel, I use fare calendars on Kayak (+/- 3 day feature), check Southwest sales, and use Frontier and Allegiant’s low fare calendars to show options.

Frontier, Southwest and Allegiant emails – I ignore 75% of what comes through on these emails because they spam you regularly, but every now and then I’ll check and see what deals are available.

Scott’s Cheap Flights  (https://scottscheapflights.com/)– I subscribed to this recently and I chose the free version because I already search a ton on my own, but if you’re really dedicated, you can get custom emails for deals specific from your home airport. But he sends several emails a week with deals from major US airports abroad to a specific location. The free version is just from flights in a region of the US (I’m signed up for the Midwest).

I combine flights and flight legs. If I can get cheaply from New York to Barcelona, I need to figure out how to get to New York. If I can get from Cincinnati to New York for cheap, I can get to Barcelona for cheap. It’s not always key to look from your home airport, just places you know you can get to easily.
